The National Prep Basketball Poll is compiled by national high school
sports experts Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman and a panel of sportswriters. The preseason national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with last season's won-loss records:
- Mouth of Wilson, Va., Oak Hill (20-0), four-time National Prep Poll titlist
- Jersey City, N.J., St. Anthony (10-0), beat regionally ranked Seton Hall Prep at Boardwalk Classic in Asbury Park
- Orlando, Fla., Edgewater (14-2), defeated two Top 25 teams to win McDonald's Classic in Erie, Pa.
- Los Angeles, Westchester (14-1), gets a crack at No. 1 Oak Hill on Feb. 7
- Mount Vernon, N.Y. (10-2), losses are to No. 1 Oak Hill and No. 3 Edgewater
- Houston, Milby (23-0), led by Arizona recruit Jawann McClellan
- Detroit, Renaissance (10-0), beating league foes by an average of 47 points
- Cincinnati, Moeller (12-1), three Division I signees in starting lineup
- Cedar Hill, Texas (22-1), only loss to No. 3 Edgewater
- New York, Rice (13-1), beat league rival No. 18 St. Raymond
- Memphis, Tenn., White Station (17-1), won its fourth Bass Pro Tournament of Champions title in Springfield, Mo.
- Aurora, Ill., West (15-1), F Shaun Pruitt headed to Illinois
- Peoria, Ill., Central (14-1), played before 4,000 fans in each of last two games
- Los Angeles, Fairfax (13-2), high school home of actress Demi Moore
- Maysville, Ky., Mason County (16-1), averages 85 points per game
- Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta Christian (17-0)-x, last two games moved because of larger crowds
- Santa Ana, Calif., Mater Dei (15-2), 20 league titles in last 23 seasons
- Bronx, N.Y., St. Raymond (10-2), faced No. 24 Lexington Catholic on Monday
- Philadelphia, Cardinal Dougherty (8-3), Siena recruit Biliah Benn dismissed from school for discipline violations
- Milwaukee, Rufus King (10-2), handed Niagara Falls, N.Y., its first loss at Image Capital Shootout in Rochester, N.Y.
- Belleville, Ill., West (14-0), has held all but one opponent to under 60 points
- Jackson, Miss., Lanier (16-2), next up is defending Louisiana 5A champ Denham Springs
- Fort Worth, Texas, Dunbar (20-1), has gone 57-2 over last two seasons
- Lexington, Ky., Catholic (12-3), nine teams that have been nationally or regionally ranked on its schedule
- Alexandria, La., Peabody (25-0), average margin of victory is more than 30 points this month

FEATS OF THE WEEK: No. 3 Orlando, Fla., Edgewater beat No. 5 Mount Vernon, N.Y., 69-67, in a battle of Top 5 teams for the championship of the McDonald's Classic in Erie, Pa. Edgewater defeated No. 19 Philadelphia, Cardinal Dougherty in the tourney opener. Senior guard Darius Washington scored a tournament-record 66 points in the two games. The Eagles have won 11 straight, four of which were against Top 25 teams . . . The top 3 teams in the Indiana state rankings battled it out at the Marion County tournament in Indianapolis. Regionally ranked Lawrence North ousted regionally ranked North Central in the semifinals, then defeated state-ranked Warren Central, 67-53, for the championship. Warren Central beat then-regionally ranked Pike in their semifinal game . . . Coaches of two regionally ranked teams earned milestone victories. A.D. Burtschi of Putnam City, Okla., got win No. 500 in his team's 61-50 win over state-ranked Edmond, Santa Fe . . . Dick Licare of Lawrence, Mass., Central Catholic notched his 400th win in a 66-49 win over Tewksbury . . . No. 11 Memphis, Tenn., White Station defeated regionally ranked Rogersville, Mo., Logan-Rogersville, 52-42, to win its fourth Bass Pro Tournament of Champions title in Springfield, Mo. More than 22,000 fans attended the three-day event.
