The National Prep Basketball Poll is compiled by national high school
sports experts Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman and a panel of sportswriters. The preseason national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with last season's won-loss records:
- Mouth of Wilson, Va., Oak Hill (19-0), five wins over Top 25 teams
- Jersey City, N.J., St. Anthony (9-0), National Prep Poll titlist in 1996
- Orlando, Fla., Edgewater (10-2), unbeaten since return of full roster after football season

FEATS OF THE WEEK: Bud Lathrop of Raytown, Mo., South got his 900th coaching victory in a 64-46 win over Kansas City, Center. Lathrop, 67, is the ninth high school boys' coach to ever reach 900 wins . . . All-American guard Sebastian Telfair of regionally ranked Brooklyn, N.Y., Lincoln dazzled fans in the city where he will play his college ball in a 77-68 win over Louisville, Ky., Pleasure Ridge Park. More than 5,000 at Louisville Gardens watched Telfair, who has committed to play for coach Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals, pour in 27 points to go with five assists, five steals, five rebounds and one blocked shot . . . Five of the West Coast's Top 10 teams were on hand for the Reebok California Hoop Challenge played at Cal. State Dominguez Hills in Carson. UCLA recruit Aaron Afflalo of regionally ranked Compton, Centennial turned in the top individual effort of the one-day event, netting 27 points (including six 3-pointers) in a 75-53 rout of state-ranked Los Angeles, Crenshaw. Meanwhile, No. 15 Los Angeles, Fairfax clipped regionally ranked Oceanside, El Camino, 58-51; and Long Beach, Poly exchanged spots in the West Coast poll with Compton, Dominguez on the strength of the Jackrabbits' 64-62 upset of the Dons.
