The National Prep Basketball Poll is compiled by national high school
sports experts Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman and a panel of sportswriters. The preseason national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with last season's won-loss records:
- Mouth of Wilson, Va., Oak Hill (17-0), more McDonald's All-Americans than any other school
- Jersey City, N.J., St. Anthony (6-0), coach Bob Hurley earned win No. 800
- Orlando, Fla., Edgewater (8-2), beat stellar field at Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
- Los Angeles, Westchester (12-1), went 5-1 on East Coast holiday trip
- Mount Vernon, N.Y. (6-1), led by super frosh G Mike Colbern
- Houston, Milby (21-0), blasted No. 17 Fairfax by 27 in final of Academy National Invitational in Houston
- Detroit, Renaissance (6-0), beat then-No. 19 Indianapolis, Lawrence North at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse
- Cincinnati, Moeller (8-1), 10-point loser to No. 1 Oak Hill at Holiday Classic in Raleigh, N.C.
- Cedar Hill, Texas (18-1), only loss to No. 3 Edgewater
- Philadelphia, Cardinal Dougherty (5-2), beaten by No. 3 Edgewater in Beach Ball final
- New York, Rice (6-1), suffered first loss to regionally ranked Philadelphia, Gratz
- Aurora, Ill., West (11-1), defeated by state-ranked Chicago, Simeon for first loss
- Memphis, Tenn., White Station (11-1), upset by regionally ranked Bradley Central in final of Arby's Classic in Bristol, Tenn.
- Peoria, Ill., Central (11-1), 40-game winning streak ended by regionally ranked Indianapolis, Pike
- Maysville, Ky., Mason County (12-1), 29-game win streak snapped by regionally ranked Indianapolis, North Central
- Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta Christian (12-1), won national bracket at Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament in Lewes, Del.
- Los Angeles, Fairfax (9-2), both losses to Top 25 teams
- Bronx, N.Y., St Raymond (6-1), beat regionally ranked Arlington, Va., O'Connell at Beach Ball
- Santa Ana, Calif., Mater Dei (12-2), state titlist two of last three seasons
- Milwaukee, Rufus King (5-2), both losses to Top 15 teams
- Belleville, Ill., West (11-0), standout G Xavier Price will play at Purdue
- Jackson, Miss., Lanier (10-2), downed defending state champ Jackson, Provine

FEATS OF THE WEEK: The patriarchs of two Top 25 teams earned milestone victories, with coach Bob Hurley of No. 2
Jersey City, N.J., St. Anthony getting win No. 800 (against just 92 losses) in a 65-45 triumph over Pembroke Pines, Fla., Flanagan at the
Torrey Pines National Prep Classic in San Diego. Meanwhile, the nation's all-time winningest coach, Robert Hughes of No. 24 Fort Worth,
Texas, Dunbar, got his 1,300th victory (against 235 losses) in an 81-73 defeat of Mansfield, Summit in the final of the Whataburger
tournament in Haltom City, Texas . . . Myrtle Beach, South Carolina's Beach Ball Classic hosted a tournament field that included nine
nationally or regionally ranked teams, and preseason No. 1-ranked Orlando, Fla., Edgewater, now ranked No. 3, came away with the top prize
by defeating regionally ranked Severn, Md., Spalding, No. 9 Cedar Hill, Texas, and No. 10 Philadelphia, Cardinal Dougherty. Highly touted
senior guard Darius Washington was named tournament MVP . . . No. 16 Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta Christian was champion at the Slam Dunk
to the Beach tournament in Lewes, Del. Six-foot-11 standout Dwight Howard was named MVP . . . Four days and some 2,800 miles later at
UCLA's Pauley Pavilion the Pangos Dream Classic took place, where Southwest Atlanta Christian followed up its Slam Dunk to the Beach title
with a 66-52 loss to regionally ranked Compton, Calif., Dominguez.
