Positive Mental Attitude Game Plan for Winning Basketball by Myndret C. "Meine" Busack Preface: This book proves itself to be a great source for implementing a coaching style. The author, "Meine" Busack demonstrates insights to the game and its fundamentals. Offense, defense, and practice plans are covered. Busack covers the individual topics well and in an organized manner. He does not leave anything out. This book will definitely prepare a team to be ready for the challenge of a winning season. The book is divided into 14 chapters. Each chapter offers an insight into what should be expected of a player. From Planning to Win to Motivating your players the author never lets up. He wants to make sure that you understand the fundamentals and processes expected to achieve an upward goal. We received our copy in a binder format along with some added goodies, "How we shoot the basketball" and "How we handle the basketball". Excellent copy. Busack explains the intracacies of each step. Well done. The book is developed more for the coach rather than a player. Hindsights and analogies abound in getting across the individual points of each chapter. Bravo.
I knew the book was good when I had only reached page 2 and the following appeared : How could you not want to continue reading after an inclusion of some of the greats of the "game" in this simple poem. The coach comes from the old school. He offers the history of the game as he lived it. Excerpts from clinics that span many decades show the desire he has toward developing a winning game plan. The inclusion of actual practice plans, offensive sets, defensive sets, and drills will improve even the best coach. I have to respect a coach that feels that "the fast break (transition) game is one of the most entertaining parts of our basketball program." I will continue to teach the ways of the greats like Dean Smith and John Wooden. Coach Busack outlines and breaks it all down for you. The entire book with it's hand drawn illustrations make it feel like a coach's notebook, which is what I liked the most. The most enjoyable chapter in the book for me was "Motivating Our Players". True beliefs and quotes within the chapter make you realize what really needs to be done. Try this book you just might learn something.
