adidas Rookie Sensations Camp Report Saturday, October 15th, 2003
from Jim Haley

This year Jim Haley returned the camp to its roots, holding the event at the Vanguard High School gym. The camp benefited from this singe court format as players seemed to play harder. Only 80 players were selected for the camp because of the time constraints of one court. This resulted in a much more consistent talent pool. Jeremiah Rivers (6'3" Sophomore, Winter Park) put on a show with his deep shooting off the dribble and was named the camps Most Outstanding Player. Cecil Coleman (6'3" Freshman, Tampa Bay Tech) was named the camp's most outstanding Freshman, edging out Largo guard Ben O'Donnell. Florida High Sophomore Tony Brown won the camp 3-point shooting contest and Ray Doucett of Jacksonville Arlington Country Day took the less-than-spectacular Slam Dunk Contest. Overall the camp showcased a deep talent pool. There was a great deal of parity so ranking players was tough outside the top 10. The all-star game was cancelled due to time concerns so we didn't get to see all of the head to head" match-ups that we would have liked to. As expected, guards were generally further along than big men.
