| Posted, 12/4/2004 11:45:35 AM | |
Orlando, FL - Last night Lake Mary (7-0) pounded Winter Park (4-1), 64-49, and the game wasn't as close as the score indicated. Lake Mary jumped out to a 15-4 lead by driving to the basket and forcing Winter Park to foul. Winter Park forward Ashley Reames got into early foul trouble and Lake Mary's Asia Wilson and Angela Guiu capitalized at the line. Winter Park stormed back and closed the gap to a single point using their full court press to generate turnovers in the backcourt. Lake Mary regrouped, though, and led by 4 at the half.
In the second half Lake Mary notched up their defensive intensity and started getting easy baskets inside. Winter Park didn't help their own cause with a series of traveling violations. They were called for traveling on four consectuive possesions. And although Winter Park held a decisive size advantage and controlled the boards for most of the night, Lake Mary was quicker. Lake Mary's girls blocked a boatload of Winter Park shot attempts and gave up nothing inside. Lake Mary's guards controlled the tempo of the game. Lake Mary's forwards, Jordan Coleman, Tailor Jones and Caitlyn Mitryck, dominated the half court game. They always seemed to find seams in the Winter Park defense to make layups.
Lake Mary extended their lead to 23 points, 57-34, with 5 minutes to play before inserting their subs.
Coleman led Lake Mary with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Mitryck had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Sarah Mendoza led Winter Park with 11 points.
