Ocala, Florida …….. The adidas Rookie Sensations Camp returned to Gainesville at Santa Fe Community College where campers played 3 games on 2 large courts. The top 8o 8th, 9th, & 10th graders locked up in highly competitive games to showcase their talents in front of 5 evaluators while several of the top AAU coaches were in the audience searching through this young but talented crop of players. The came as far away north with Fort Walton Beach, Tallahassee, and South from the Stuart / Vero Beach area. The metro areas of Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa plus the Lakeland, and Gainesville-Ocala area was well represented. There was a great deal of parity with a deep amount of talent in both the freshman & sophomore class.
  • Sophomore MVP: A.J. Stewart / Arlington Country Day / 6'7" Most talented athlete in camp; He did it all from 3 point shots to thunderous dunks ; has all the tools (shot blocker/ballhandler/rebounder/passer/scorer) to compete on the high D-1 level; he's is a young Dwight Howard in his style of play. could be the best player in the Coach Rex Morgan era; plays intense / hustler
  • Freshman MVP: Miguel Paul / Lakeland Kathleen / 6' Has complete game on both offense & defense. Great on the ball defender in camp logging a ton of steals. Penetrator deluxe who can dish off to the perimeter shooters plus drive it to the basket. This top Frosh has a great future and with his style of play could be another George Almones (SW Louisiana) from the Red Devil program. Good court savvy & very unselfish. Quick as a cat !!!!!!!!
Other Top 20 Sophomore Allstars in no particular order
  • Marcel Williams / West Orange / 6'6"……….probably 2nd best Soph in camp. Power player in the low post; strong inside presence; plays hard on both ends of the floor; has improved immensely since his 1st Rookies camp. His camp play was good enough to receive MVP considerations.
  • Watkins Williams / Brandon / 6'4" …………. Loves to pass in transition; good vertical skills; skilled In driving to the basket off shot fakes; athletic slasher; balanced game; good finisher inside; plays in quality program.
  • Andy Summerlin / Mt. Dora / 6'4" …………..Good 3 point shooter; will block shots in transition; hard nose competitor that battles for loose balls; good shooter off the dribble.
  • Andrew Darst / tampa Jesuit / 6'4"………….Experienced Varsity starter as Frosh; excellent defensive perimeter skills; great court sense vision & is a team player; shoots the "3" with consistency;
  • Rod Bombard / Edgewater / 5"10"………….solid lefty guard with nice perimeter game; good Ballhandler; distributes the ball to the open man; Has quick catch-shoot release on shot; plays in State championship program; point guard on Undefeated Frosh team
  • Todd Brown / Williston / 5'6" ……………….started on winning Varsity as frosh; hustler on the Court; will shoot the "3"; will defend; court awareness With a combination of quicks makes him tough to guard
  • Brandon Caputo / Edgewater / 6'4" ……….very mature & physical; hard nose competitor; will bang inside; good form shooter; nice high post game; scored a bunch on inside drives to the basket
  • Fabian Wilson / Jefferson County / 6'5" ….attacks the basket with avengance; adequate low post game; hard play put him in top 20 game
  • Ian Scott / Mt. Dora / 6'2" ……………………crafty lefty; likes to mix it up inside; nice passing skills from the perimeter; intelligent player always under control
  • Idell Bell / Kathleen / 6'2" ……………………athletic 2 guard that seems to love the game; exceptional penetrator on offense; relentless intensity; lanky body; more offensive minded than defensive at this stage but lots of time to balance that out; open court passer;
  • Willie Powers / PK Yonge / 5'11"…………..talented; solid ball handling skills; wing player who can Finish with either hand in transition
  • Joshua Jones / Trinity Catholic / 6'6" …….strong post player; soft inside shooting touch; good offensive & defensive rebounder. Played Varsity as a freshman; uses the glass to his advantage; will use baby hook shot in the paint;
  • Terrance Howell / Kathleen / 6'5" ……….big man with footwork; can score in the low post; works hard to get open; good shot selection; strong inside rebounder;
  • Myck Brown / PK Yonge / 6'4" ………….. good player who loves to attack the basket; uses body on the inside block; will shoot high post jumper; leaping skills are outstanding; strong forward;

    TOP 5 FRESHMEN ALLSTARS: (Freshmen selected for the All Star game)
    • Luke Loucks / Clearwater / 6'3" …………One of 2 "sleepers" in the camp. Unreal overall game; great passer with excellent court decisions in both half court and transition; most pure true cager in camp; finds the open man and a soft shooting touch on the perimeter; considered for Frosh MVP; playmaker deluxe; great future with all-state considerations; a coaches 2 guard dream
    • Kenny Williams / Columbia / 5'8" ……….a jet point guard on 2 wheels; an unknown sleeper that shined in this camp; penetrator-looks to dish off on drive; handles the rock with either hand; intense on both sides off the ball
    • Ameer Brown / Monteverde / 6'2" ……..has a nose for the ball; he played hard and was everywhere in sight; unlimited potential in a big-time program; hails from New York; finishers that plays with no fear.
    • Anthony Salter / Rickards / 5'9" ……….outstanding passer; adequate scorer; good handles; will feed the open man in the post; Redskins transition style will fit his needs
    • Adam Pegg / Palm Harbor / 6'8"……….future is bright for this young post player; good passer for big man; finds the open man in the team concept; solid high post player; shot blocker; had physical battle with John Burke in camp; weight program would vastly speed up his potential.

    A closer look at other Freshman prospects: (in no particular order)
    • John Burke / Gibbs / 6'6" ……………… improved each year at Rookies; this kid is a moose who can bulldoze you down in the paint; plays physical versus other post players; will occasionally block shots but con- centrates on solid defense; good rebounder; upgraded competition should speed up his improvement
    • Jay Wade / Bay / 6'4" ……………………could become the next star in Panama City; solid defender who can score; rebounder; hustler; will flourish under new coach Matt Anderson; one of the best kept secrets in the Panhandle
    • LaBrente Bracey / Vanguard / 6'4" ….lots of potential for this inside gem; can score inside; good passer in the high / low post game; weight program should improve his physical low post game; defensive rebounder
    • Freddie Riley / Vanguard / 6'4" ……… perimeter forward with a 3 point perimeter game; nice ballhandler for a small forward future; active on the glass;
    • Kory Pugh / Pine Castle Christian / 6'3"…. Athletic small forward; good inside / outside player; outstanding student with a 4.0gpa; nice jump shooter from intermediate range; should thrive in Coach Mark Rickman's offensive scheme
    • Alex Doyle / Tampa Jesuit / 6'5" …….hard nose player; needs to improve on post game; will block shots; weight room a must; lefty inside player that boxes out for defensive rebounds; handles the ball well in transition off rebounds which is a huge asset
    • Jordan Fair / Oldsmar Christian / 5'11"…..solid point guard; looks inside first; needs to get stronger physically; good 3 point range; distributes the ball; offense is ahead of the defense at this stage & his ability to hit the open shot is a plus
    • Scott Maxfield / Oviedo / 5'11"………good passer in half court offense; will play tough full court Pressure defense; good court savvy;
    • Brolin Floyd / Vanguard / 6' ………….brother of VHS standout Clifford Floyd(College of the Sequoias- California); good balance of offensive skills; 2-Grd that can Shoot the "3"; nice transition player.
    • Jimmy Lefew / Vero Beach / 5'6" …..good ballhandler; shooter; sees the floor well; looks for the open players; under-sized but plays with heart & intensity; excellent defender
    • Taylor Simmons / Gainesville / 5'8" moves well without the ball; must create shots for others With his dribble penetration; quick 1st step; plays with no fear
    • Marcus Capers / Lake Region / 6' ….lefty perimeter shooter; slender built guard who makes good passing/shooting decisions
    • Orien Ellis / Gainesville/ 5'7" ……….drew some tough defensive assignments in camp; offensive game should come in time and experience
    • Jonathan Woodside/L. Gibson/6'…can shoot the mid-range jumper; finds the open post in the half-court offense; needs to improve defensive intensity; does a nice job of finishing on the break
    • Damian Robinson/Vanguard/6'….. athletic wing forward who plays hard; streaky shooter who defends on the ball; drives the ball inside & attacks the basket
    • Marcus Johnson/Winter springs/5'8".. this young player can take it to the hole with the best; sound point guard fundamentals will lead a path to success on the court
    • Preston Frederick/L. Gibson/6'5"…nice rebounder; needs physical strength in weight room; could be a future inside/outside wing forward
    • Ryan Power/Jensen Beach/5'8" …a point guard with polished skills; solid defender that can hit the perimeter "j"; sees the whole floor; unselfish team player; should thrive in a new program
    • Eddie Piccini/Pine Castle Christian/5'10"….excellent defender on the wings using hands to deny the passing lanes; good court sense; hard nose intensity; quick 1st step on drives to the basket
    • Christian Jones / Bay / 5'9"………outstanding defender; quick feet; reacts well in open court with sound decisions whether it's a pass or a layup shot
    • Thomas Austin/Pine Castle Christian/5'7" ..great court presence; small size penetrating pt. guard; good ballhandler; played Varsity as a middle schooler at this small school power house
    • Brandon Joiner/Winter Park…….. very active on the boards; needs to improve post moves to get open inside; nice finisher and will set screens; hard work will pay dividends down the road.
    • Joshua Woodside/L.Gibson/5'8"…has offensive skills & needs to look to score more; develop moves off the ball to get open; will develop with game experience in the team concept
    • Larry Murphy Jr./Gibbs/5'10"……coaches son; plays intense; quick defensive gem; good open court decisions; quick hands on "d" and a nice mid-range "j"; transition style will make him standout
    • P.J. Potts / Land of Lakes/5'10"…better defender than offensive performer; nice off the ball movement on offense; will fit in nicely with the Lakers half-court offense; showed good floor leadership skills in running a team
    • Clifford Reed Jr./Atlantic/6'3"…active on the boards; aggressive defender; son of Bethune Cookman College coach; mid range "j" in his offensive bag

    8th Graders to watch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Emari Bailey / ACDS / 6'4" ……….without a doubt, strongest 8th grader in camp; just as physical as the allstar game sophs; oozes with athleticism & has fun playing the game; the future is unlimited for this young deer that has all the tools; needs to develop left hand & shot selection;
    • Montana Brown / AFA / 5'5"……..don't let this midget fool you; son of former Globetrotter Tommy "Cochise" Brown; great ballhandling skills; gym rat who loves the game; uncanny shooting skills from 3 point range, especially when uncontested; pure desire & hustle makes up for his size
    • Ethan Roulhac/P.C. Jinks MS/6'2"..size let him compete against the older players; bright future;
    • Greg Gantt / Gainesville/5'8" …..sometimes his quicks leads to poor court decisions; moves without the ball in half-court set; nice size for guard at his age; will hit the open "j"

    Other Sophomores to watch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (in no particular order)
    • Brian Frank / Buchholz / 5'10"….quality guard that can shoot the outside jumper with a quick release; Excellent team player; can shoot the "3"; court savvy a plus
    • Brian Alexander/Bradenton SE/5'6"..loves transition play; can hit the "3" with consistency; makes very few mistakes; will find the open man; will defend on the ball with pressure;
    • Sean Mahoney/Oviedo/ 5'11" …..another good shooter from Lion land; hidden player who contributes Huge in small ways; plays hard; has a "winning" attitude
    • Andrew Baker/Vero Beach/6'1".. can hit the "3" & the mid-range jumper … streaky; good on the ball Likes to offensive rebound; good passer from perimeter
    • Matt Wise / Buchholz/ 6'4"……..scorer with lots of hustle in his game; rebounds exceptionally well by boxing out; nice 10'-12' "j"; tough defender who isn't afraid to take the charge
    • Carl Richardson/FW Beach/6'4"…likes to get up & down floor; has a good read on post defenders And works to get open; finishes inside but needs to be more Physical; will hit high post "j"
    • Alex Doyle / Tampa Jesuit/6'5"…lefty who can play outside at small forward; nice box out position for defensive rebound; handles ball in transition off rebound which few players do at a young age
    • Matt Sheperd/Leesburg/6'1"….. 3 point shooter; unorthodox stroke that goes in; team player with Passing skills; difficult to guard as a lefty; uses slash cut to basket On offense;
    • Walter Perkins /Tampa Prep/6'4"Likes to offensive rebound; can play the perimeter; raw in some areas of the game; need to be more active in the post; has good all-around game;
    • Armand Moore/Jones/5'10"…… has solid skills; handles the ball & passes well; hustler; moves well without the ball; will hit open shot when defense slacks off
    • Nate Marshall/Edgewater/5'11"..guard with a pass first attitude but has a scorers mentality; good strongside defender; weakside defense will improve; takes care of the ball at his position
    • Dave Minaya/Brandon/6'3"….. will rebound and does a great job of boxing out; good quick outlet passer; will penetrate inside from high post; should contribute on the Eagles varsity this year
    • Scott LaBelle/Leesburg/6'4"…loves to attack the basket; plays intense on both sides of the ball; should thrive in Jackets pressing game; this lefty has a soft touch jumper; one of his best tools is the backdoor cut bounce pass from the high post; good fefensive fundamentals
    • Mike Bedford/Leesburg/5'10"..outstanding ballhandlers with point guard mentality & skills; add a nice jump shot to the mix & you can see a nice overall player; he's the type that will win the battle on both sides of the ball
    • Andre Mitchell/L. Region/6'6"..a wide body player inside; Charles Barkley body; will use the board inside to score; can hit the mid-range jumper and will grab his share of rebounds;
    • Nick Balcer/Jensen Beach/6'5"..this guy is an athlete that's still growing; isn't shy about driving the ball to the basket; will alter shots down inside on defense; likes to bang & rebound
    • Claude Davis/L. Gibson/6'4"…carries an aggressive style to the court; best offensively down on the blocks; likes to rebound; his hustle makes up for any weaknesses
    • Andrew Grossman/Lincoln/6'4"..lots of promise for this young man as he brings a solid game to the court; needs to develop his finish with contact; hard worker
    • Tyler Tieder/Glades Day/5'11"..adequate ballhandler with a fair amount of quickness in his game; has good court vision in finding the open man; will finish inside as a guard;
    • Jared Mabrey/Lincoln/6'1"….a ballhandler deluxe who sees the floor and finds the open man; good passer who played a nice team role in camp; will slash to get to the basket and drop freethrows
    • Matt Dziawga/Tampa Catholic/6'..didn't get many offensive touches in camp; played solid defense; hustled & ran the floor well; coach's son that has good court savvy; known for his 3 point shooting
    • Paul Hutchins/Buchholz/5'11"..played a key team role player at camp; nice handles & strong Finisher; has good shooting range
